I have lived within a mile of Abridge all my life and am unable to really imagine living anywhere else. I was born in Hillmans Cottages along the Ongar Road and moved to New Farm Drive aged ten on the weekend of the Silver Jubilee in June 1977.

That was a fantastic weekend with so much organised by a group of locals and it was pretty much this group who went on to form a fundraising group for a new village hall and the Village Weekend was born.

That was 1985, the 2011 weekend will be the 26th, now the 27th in 2012 is just moths away and I can remember amusing, strange and sad stories from many of those weekends. My first proper date with Donna my wife was the 1991 Sunday Funday with her looking good in her fashionable (at the time) shell suit and me trying to impress.

I can remember trying to climb the equivelant of Mount Everest with a massive scaffold tower, camp over night looking after the drink behind the bar, being on many different floats, seeing great acts, booking some good acts such as the Beetels and Buddy Holly and many, many other great years.

What I am looking for now are your funny, sad or damn right strange stories associated with the village weekend. Proposals at the Ball, mayhem on the dancefloor, you name it I want to know about it. Just use the comment box below and share your memories with all of us!!!
